The Mt. Hope girls track team place third and the boys team placed eighth at the Eastern Division track championships at Barrington High School on Saturday.

"The boys and girls had a great day and performed the way we expected," said head coach Renae Cicchinelli. "There really weren’t any surprises, which can be a good thing sometimes We are very proud of them all and the way they performed."

Thea Jackson won three gold medals and a silver, placing first in the 100 meter-dash, 200-meter dash, triple jump and placing second in the long jump. The sophomore speedster got off to a quick start and pulled away from Nazarae Phillip and Kendra Daniel both of East Providence clocking a time of 12.31 seconds.

I've been a little nervous,” she said about struggling this season. “I haven't been seeing the times I wanted, but it worked out.”

Jackson, who splits time playing club soccer, had a fabulous day.  She ran the 200 in 26.12 seconds, besting Phillip and the Daniel sisters by 43 seconds. She won the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet 10.25 inches and placed second in the long jump with a hop of 16 feet, 11.5 inches. She scored 38 points for the Huskies who took third place overall with a score of 113 points. Barrington placed first with a score of 211.5, East Providence placed second with a score of 120.5.

I've been missing some practices. It's just been a lot on my body playing two sports,” she said.

Though she figures to ramp things up as the competition gets tougher at the state meet in June.

Winning sweet for Silva

Huskies junior long jumper Lola Silva won gold in the event with a bound of 17 feet .5 inches.

“It felt so good,” she said after the winning the event.

Silva, who splits time playing lacrosse this spring, also placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 6 inches and placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

“It’s difficult, I missed a lacrosse game to be here,” she said. “But jumping well, definitely made me happy.”

Deal having fun while winning

Jessica Deal led all four laps to take gold in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 1.76 seconds. The sophomore distance runner placed second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 58.6 seconds, 37 seconds behind Portsmouth’s Allie Kaull who took gold.

It's just it's been such a fun season,” she said. “I’m really trying to have more fun with races and I think it's kind of working,” she said.

She said that she is trying to do her best and and not take winning too seriously.

“I’m still trying my best, she said. “It seems to have been working the last couple meets.”

The distance runner began her day by running the first leg of the 4x800 meter relay. The team consisting of Deal, Pisasale, Evelyn Towers and Lucy O’Brien placed third with a time of 10 minutes, 45.59 seconds.

Rocha becoming more consistent at high jump

Senior high jumper Kalie Rocha placed fourth with a jump of 4 feet, 9 inches.

I feel a lot better this season, Rocha said. “I definitely think I'm becoming more consistent.”

Rocha, the Huskies’ captain, also placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet, 8 inches and 12th in the long jump with a hop of 13 feet, 10.75 inches. She also participated in the 200-meter run.

The Huskies’ captain said that she likes what she is seeing from her teammates this season.

“The team is really close and we are all working together,” she said. “We have a very young team. They are working hard this season and are going to continue to get better and really do well.”

Pisasale places third in pole vault, fourth in 400

Freshman Kara Pisasale also had a good day for her first divisional meet. She placed third in the pole vault with a jump of 7 feet, 6 inches. Pisasale placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 4.5 seconds and fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 32.76 seconds.

Mt. Hope boys place eighth

The 4x800-meter relay team consisting of Jackson Cicchinelli, Owen Schenck, Tyler Scarborough and Gavin Stegall took the silver medal with a time of 8 minutes, 51.32 seconds. Schenck, a senior, placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 7.78 seconds. He placed eighth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 35.82 seconds.
